From Sceptic to Advocate: How TestLabFinder Streamlines Testing for Professionals Like Mat

By Matthew Cox

When I started working on TestLabFinder, I knew the real test of its value would come from people like Mat. A former key account manager at a leading test house with years of experience handling testing enquiries and managing client relationships, Mat had seen it all.
So when I first told him about TestLabFinder, his scepticism didn’t surprise me.

“Once you have a contact at a test house, why would anyone need a platform like this?” Mat asked bluntly.

His feedback was tough but invaluable—it pushed me to refine TestLabFinder’s features to be more than a simple directory. I wanted to create a tool with real purpose and longevity, something that users would keep coming back to.

Nearly a year later, Mat finally had the chance to experience TestLabFinder for himself. Here’s how his journey unfolded—from sceptic to advocate—and why his story matters.

Setting the Stage: Why Mat’s Perspective Matters

Mat was the perfect person to test-drive TestLabFinder. With his dual perspective of five years as a key account manager at a UKAS-accredited test lab and many more as a test lab customer, he knew first-hand the complexities of matching client requirements with the right test capabilities.

His scepticism made his feedback even more valuable. If someone with his expertise and industry knowledge could see the potential in TestLabFinder, it would be a clear sign that we’d built something truly impactful.

Dedicated Search Engine: Finding the Perfect Test House Made Easy

We began with the core of the platform: the search functionality. I guided Mat through creating an account and running his first search.

To test its limits, he selected multiple test types, accreditations and keywords in a single query. TestLabFinder handled it seamlessly. Designed for both simple and detailed searches, the platform’s flexibility impressed Mat immediately.

He explored the toggle between map and list views and expanded lab profiles for more detailed information. A standout for him was the embedded accreditation certificates—a feature that eliminates the need to cross-reference external sites like UKAS and BSI to verify accreditation scopes.

“This alone could save hours of time in the research phase,” Mat noted.

TestLabFinder also allows each listing to configure multiple accreditations, certifications, test types and keywords, making it a one-stop resource for users needing detailed lab qualifications without chasing details across various sources.

Streamlining Chaos: Turning Messy Enquiries into Clear Opportunities

Next, we moved on to one of TestLabFinder’s most transformative features: the project enquiry tools.

Having managed countless client requests as a key account manager, Mat knew the frustration of vague or incomplete enquiries. The back-and-forth emails, delays and wasted time were constant headaches.

With TestLabFinder, the project enquiry process eliminates this issue. Users are guided step-by-step to provide comprehensive details about their testing requirements, the system intelligently adapts the information-gathering process based on the specific test types selected, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

For Mat, this feature made an immediate difference. The structured and tailored process ensures that enquiries are clear and actionable from the outset, enabling test houses to respond more quickly and with greater precision.

“This solves a major industry pain point,” Mat said. “It improves efficiency and reliability for everyone involved. It’s also a huge help for people who aren’t as familiar with testing as we are. When I worked at Meggitt as a subject matter expert for qualification testing, I was constantly asked to book tests on behalf of others. Now, I can just point them to TestLabFinder.”

At the Core of TestLabFinder: Smarter Vibration Testing Tools

Finally, we explored a feature I’m particularly proud of: the Vibration and Shock Calculators, branded as TestLab Calculate.

Mat tested them by entering various data, generating profiles for sine, random and shock testing. He immediately saw the value.

In many cases, creating meaningful results—like overall gRMS or maximum displacement—requires using advanced vibration control software. This process is time-consuming, requires expensive software and can be inaccessible for smaller teams or occasional users.

TestLabFinder makes this process seamless. The calculators are web-based, free and integrated directly into the platform’s Search and Project workflows. By front-loading critical analysis at the start of the enquiry process, TestLabFinder ensures that enquiries are accurate, actionable and aligned with test house capabilities from the outset.

“This feature alone is a game-changer,” Mat said. “It’s accessible, quick and saves hours of effort; I remember working at a test house and having to get dedicated engineer support to de-code vibration enquiries just to verify if we could do the test or not!”

Mat’s Take: Why He Changed His Mind

By the end of our session, Mat admitted that his perspective had shifted entirely.

He saw how TestLabFinder was more than a directory—it was a comprehensive resource designed to streamline every step of the testing process, from initial research to detailed calculations and reliable enquiries.

Mat’s Words:

“Having worked as a Key Account Manager at a test house for several years and as a customer seeking testing services for many more, I know first-hand how complex it can be to match client requirements with the right test capabilities.

Initially, I was sceptical about whether an online platform could effectively handle this complexity. However, after evaluating TestLabFinder’s initial functionality, I’m thoroughly impressed!

The test capability search functions are unmatched, allowing for precise and efficient matching between client needs and test facilities. The project enquiry form gathers all relevant information upfront, significantly reducing the usual back-and-forth communication. The calculators are uniquely implemented early in the enquiry stage, supporting efficient alignment of test needs with capable facilities.

As someone still closely aligned with this industry, I plan to use TestLabFinder for my next test lab enquiries and will advocate for my colleagues to do the same. I’m excited to see what the future holds for TestLabFinder and the commercial test house industry!”

Why This Case Study Matters

Mat’s story highlights the power of TestLabFinder to transform how the testing industry operates. For seasoned professionals like Mat, it’s a tool that streamlines workflows and solves longstanding pain points.

This is just one perspective. We’re also exploring how TestLabFinder unlocks opportunities for those new to testing—empowering them to engage with confidence and enabling test houses to reach a broader market.

Together, these stories show how TestLabFinder is not just a tool for the present but a platform with the potential to reshape how test houses and their customers connect.
